Cisco Router

By Still creeping ·
I would like some help on connecting a network using windows 2000 server and clients to the internet. I have a Cisco 1600 router. I have 56k dial-up internet connection and I want to share that on the network.

To Connect the network to the internet with a
dial up modem you need a Barricade
SMC7004BR. This is a router, firewall, print
server, dhcp server, and includes a 4 port hub.
It has a serial port to connect to the modem. It
will dial on demand or if you have a phone line
that that can be dedicated it will maintain a
connection. It works like a champ. I used one
with a dial up isdn connection and it was
ruthless about keeping the connection up.

Hope this helps.

Which model of the Cisco 1600

by P_Jensen In reply to Cisco Router

Depending on the hardware set of the router and which IOS it is running you can configure Dial on Demand Routing (DDR) or set up an ISDN link. Will this be a dedicated line to the Internet or something you only want opened if a user is trying to connect to a website?
