CIsco VPN does not work with my router Netgear MR814

I have downloaded the new firmware for netgear. When I try to vpn using cisco - the windows says i am connected to my work, but when I go open up mail - it hangs and times out.

I have tried this at work since they have an external router and i am able to vpn fine.

Does anyone know what I need to set in Netgear MR814 in order for my vpn to work?

Was it working before the upgrade?

Make sure the Netgear allows outbound access to UDP 500 .
Or it could just simply be a limitation of the OS behind the router, if you are using NAT.( XP has this issue)

After the vpn is established , do a trace to the mail server and see what do you get back.
Also it would be good if you could ping, or telnet the server on the smtp port.(25)
Check your ip address also.
