Citrix Terminal Server

By sharicp35 ·
My boss came to me today and asked what I knew about Citrix....my answer was well not much. Can anyone give me a little insite into Citrix, what it take to build a Citrix server, ie: any special equipment. The office we want to put this in has a very slow connection into our office...is Citrix a good way to go? If you can recommend an article or website, that would be great as well. Thanks for your help.

Shari

Citrix Terminal Server

Well firstly you can choose between the full Citrix version and the, cheaper but a bit more limited, Windows 2000 Terminal Services from MS. Both use exactly the same paradigm (TServices is mostly built on Citrix technology.)
Then on to the questions:
* Takes to build a server: solely a heavyweight server with lots of RAM. I'd recommend W2K (but not Active Directory) because it's better suited for the job. Of course the base server will only allow Citrix or MS over the LAN; for a remote office you will also have to activate RAS and any hardware (e.g. modem) for the connection.
* Good way to go for low-bandwidth remote office: generally spoken, yes.
* References: www.thinplanet.com is a good general portal. It also contains lots of references and reviews, of course also to www.citrix.com and www.microsoft.com.

Hope thiz helpz,
