Citrix XenApp application streaming - discussion of volume and variety

By . Avi ·

At the company I work for we use citrix mf/xen technology for few years by now,
We recently started delivering applications using the streaming feature of XenApp 5,
We use it to consolidate application with compatibility issues on to single server,
Applications like java and Active-x dependent web applications and such, We currently have about 9-13 applications which we successfully streamed to servers in our farm (all 2003 for now) We have consolidated from a large number of mfps 4.5 servers (40+) to 14 xa servers for now (also we ridded few old apps etc.)

The concept of streaming application for itself
is a great concept, the technology is remarkable and the potential is great.

Tho, now at the approaching end of this upgrade project,as a person involved in the profiling i've noticed the following:

1. most time streamed are slower in their streamed environment

2. getting a java/active-x based application to work properly is most of the time a headache

3. getting a streamed application up-to-shape performance wise is not done in a few simple steps and is taking(read: wasting) time

Now, i might be wrong about how i feel about this but that's my experience,
I would like to hear about what experiences others have with application streaming,
One note: if you plan on participating then
i would appreciate if you include the magnitude of the farm and how big is the role of streaming in the farm, what applications does it cover etc.
