Cleaning my HDD

By Islander ·
I want to wipe out the HDD before giving my PC away. I only know of one program(wipeinfo.exe) that does that. Its there a place on the net where i can get this program or a similiar one for free? I am looking to something that is DOS based.
Thanks in advanced

www.tucows.com is usually the first place I look, and very seldom fail to find what I need. The site has a huge selection of freeware and shareware in a wide variety of categories.

The conventional way would be to use FDISK a utility in dos, using the start up disk
Commercial products to look at is Sanitizer, from Infraworks Corp.
Cover your Tracks
www.ffsoftware.com
www.infraworks.com
also look at site www.windriver.com
and www.pcworld.com for utilities

I am looking for something to write 1's and 0's to the HDD. Fdisk does not do that. I should of specified that in my question. Thanks for the input anyways.

Just use the FDISK utility as mentioned above. This will erase any info on your hard drive. It's fairly simple to use. Boot from your floppy and simply type "fdisk" and press the Enter key. (FDISK is usually part of your system boot disk.)

Delete all partitions and recreate & activate one. Don't forget to format the drive afterwards ... with the "/s" option to make the hard drive bootable.

If you want to erase your HD, then a good DOS solution would be to get a floppy and type sys a: then copy format.com to it. Switch to A: then type format C:.
This will wipe out all information on your HD.
