I purchased a couple of laptops from Dell a couple of months ago. One of them has been crashing once every ten days or so. First a clicking noise starts, followed by the computer locking up, then the blue screen of death. Experience tells me the hard drive is faulty & will likely fail completely sometime soon. However, Dell are trying to tell me that because it passes their diagnostic test, that it must be the operating system. I’ve already (begrudgingly) gone through the proccess of taking it back to the factory settings with their system restore, full hard drive format included. Ten minutes later, it crashed again. Now they’re trying to tell me that it needs windows re-installed from the disk. I’ve asked them how the OS could possibly cause the ticking noise & they just insist that because it passed their diagnostics, it must be OS related. Does this make sense to anyone? Is there any way that it could actually be caused by the OS?
