    Client Access can’t remember password

    Locked

    by enrique ·

From time to time we have received calls from our users asking us if there is a way of not having to type the password asked by Client Access to signon to our AS/400. This is the signon screen that appears the first time you use Client Access which asks the users if they want the PC to remember the appropriate password.

In some cases, and for no apparent reasons, the PC(Win95) seems to forget that initial password and presents this signon screen but without any option to “remember” it. We have tried re-installing and works as it supposed to be, but sometimes the “nuissance” re-appears.

Is there a fix or solution for this inconvenient? Where should we look for a solution?

      your *.PWL could be disabled.
To enable password cache, using system policies:To Install System Policy Editor – in add/remove programs in control panel, click the install/unistall tab,it is locacated on 95cd-ADMIN\APPTOOLS\POLEEDIT DIRECTORY
To run from the start menu, choose Programs,Accessorie, then System Tools.Click System Policy Editor

I recently had to diagnose this exact problem – here’s what I found:

      1. You MUST have password caching enabled on the client
      2. You MUST have a Windows password (not NT network, but a local WIndows password). If it’s set to a blank password, Client Access password will not cache – I still don’t know why, but it won’t.
      3. In Client Access Properties, setup a default user and password (remember to SAVE the changes). This must be done for each session that you have configured.

If you are using Client Access Express, and not the old Client Access, you want to go into the Operations Navigator, right-click on the system you are interested in, and select Properties.

Under the “Connection” tab, there is a place where you pick your prompt options. Set this to “Use Windows User Name and Password” if you keep user names and passwords in sync, or “Use Default User ID”. If you have this set to “Prompt Every Time”, you will get a prompt even if you told it to remember yourpassword.

      Hope this helps.
