Client mappings to Win2k server

I have a win2k server w/sp2 and am running 9x/ME/2kpro workstations. Initially the mapped drives to the server are connected, but periodocally they get the “disconnected red X”. This causes problems for our apps that run from the server. What would cause this disconnect/not available drive??
