client not accesible

By rubsmong ·
I am running windows xp pro on my desktop home made server which supports a LAN of 5 machines all running windows xp pro excluding one which is running on win98se. The problem is, every time i try to acces one of the machines running winxp using the name client on the network i get this message \\client is not accessible, you might not have permission to use this network resource, contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions: thing is i have not enabled or disabled any permissions on my server and i can get the link light on the adapters of both machines although even pinging the machine is a problem. With the machine running win98se i can see it and access it easily from the server but i cant access the server from it yet all the other machines are accessible from it, when i try to access the server from the 98se machine i get the message : you must supply a password to make this connection. resource: \\server\IPC$ (SERVER being the name of server on the net)i supply my server log-on password since there is no other but it gives me an incorrect password? Can someone really help?

i believe your error accessing the xp boxes is due to the windows firewall. you can turn it off for a test and if that works, you can go to and look up how to open the ports needed.
on the win98 box, you must create an account on that box with the same username and password as you use to login the server.
