Client sys assigns LPT1 to a net printer

By Randeb ·
How can I make XP forget what it thinks it knows about this shared printer and allow me to set it up new? When I install the printer, an hp3330, on the client sys it finds the shared printer and sets it up on LPT1, which of course won't work, without allowing me to change the port config. I've tried browsing for the printer and typing in the location and the result is the same. It will set up and print to other net printers fine.

how is this printer shared? connected to print server or to pc? if print server, try using HP's Add Network PRinter wizard available for download from www.hp.com. Is this a domain? make sure you log on with an account that has privleges for adding network resources...
otherwise, sorry if I don't understand, but have you tried letting the install proceed and *then* changing the port in the printer properties? you'll probably have to add a port...copy the configuration from a working computer...
