Client Uninstall

by shanghai sam . Updated 24 years, 3 months ago

I am operating on an IBM 365XD notebook, Win 95,Office 97/Outlook 98. I was forced to purchase this computer as a requirement of an old job; it was configured for client/server networking, primarily to an AS/400 network.
Under Control Panel/Network/Configuration, the Network Components listed as installed are: Client for Microsoft Networks, Client for Netware Networks, Dial-Up Adapter, IPX/SPX-compatible Protocol, and TCP/IP.

My questions are three:
1) When I left the company, since the computer was mine, nothing was ‘uninsatlled’ properly. On the Desktop sits an icon of an AS/400 called ‘AS/400 Network’. I can’t seem to get rid of it. Properties is grayed out, so I don’t know where the target is; I’ve searched ‘C’ for *.ico, but it doesn’t show up; it can’t be trashed; it’s not listed in Explorer/Desktop as one of the items. How do I get rid of this?
2) Whenever I boot up, I get a DOS screen for about 30 seconds stating ‘unable to find cwbrxd.exe or one of it’s libraries’ I know the ‘cw*.*’ files are affiliated with the AS/400 and network communication [there are 46 of them on the system in Windows/System; 45 are .dll’s and one is an .ini]. I’ve tried searching *.ini files to see if I could eliminate this, but can’t figure out where it’s calling for this prgram to execute. That file isn’t on the ‘C’ drive. I’ve also tried searchng the registry, and can’t seem to see anythng pertaining to this. How can I remove this request from the startup?
3) Can any of the “installed network components” listed above be safely removed, since I’m on a dial-up connection to my ISP?
