clients accessing the internet

By T-storm ·
im running Advanced server as a pdc with a modem on it to access the internet. i use sygate 3.1 as the dhcp and link to the modem , all my clients can see the network and all the accounts work ( 2X win 2000 pro, 1X win98se) ok my prob is that 1 client (my comp with win 2000) can access the internet but the other 2 cant even though all settings an pointings to the gateway are all the same , i should also point out that my comp is the omnly one with fixed IP address, the other 2 use dchp, anyideas? thanx

check that your server`s nic ip address (gateway) is either excluded or outwith your scope of ip address`s assigned by DHCP,ie: g/way= scope= - 192.168.0.x

if all is ok there then you can either configure your server asa router using RRAS or you can use ICS, i have configured this myself both ways but i would go for ICS for simplicity, go to properties of your dial up connection, under sharing check box for connection sharing and if you require dial on demand, go to advanced and configure here the server which will be used for this share connection, port and modem com port this will automatically configure your server nic (gateway) with ip address.

hope this helps. post to let me know how you get on.
