Clients cant surf.

By gibb_derek ·
I am the administrator of a small network using cisco routers. I have four routers connected to a central router that is connected to a WAN. Each router is running two eathernets. None of the users on my network can reach any site on the www but users that are conected to the same WAN that are not going through me are able to surf. When my clients run a traceroute they get through my network, through the wan and into the www before they time our somewhere around 16-18 hops. Everything was fine until yesterday when this started happening and I have made no changes to my routers. The WAN administrator assures me he has no blocks in place.
HELP!!!!!

Hi,

I am trying to draw a diagram of your setup but not much luck I think I need more info. Here are just a few items to ponder over. Is there a DHCP server on your network that could be messing up your subnet? Have you checked your firewall setup? Rebooted the routers? Can you traceroute to the web from each of the routers without getting a time-out? Is the default GW on your machines correct? Could the WAN admin changed the IP address of their router?

These are just a few things to check. Be systematic. Soz if this it not much use.

I know that there is a unreachable setting that you get if its more that 15 hops away. It shouldnt be that many hops just to get out on the WWW. Have you tryed pinging a www ip address on one of your Cisco routers? That will tell you if your problem is before or after your routers.
