Closing a writable CD

By meuker ·
Does anyone know if there is any way to close a writable CD that was in the middle of a burn when the program crashes? Since the program didn't "close" the CD it appears to be trashed. Is this an accurate assumption?

If you were are using a Plextor (burn-proof technology) you might try, but otherwise no.

I was using Adaptec's Easy CD Creator 4. For whatever reason, the program could not write to my CD and the program crashed leaving the CD in an "open" state. When I try to look at the CD, it is unaccessable. I think I'm out two CD's! (Yep, it happened twice)

Unfortunately if the recording phase was interrupted, there's no way to recover the CD. This occurs commonly when you try switching between applications when burining a CD or if you're trying to burn a CD at a speed higher then your computer can handle. Just because a CD-R may be 12x you should probably keep the burn speed at about 4x - 8x. When you think about it, this is still pretty quick. I would suggest letting the computer sit while it's burning the CD and try burning the CD at no more then 4x. As the previous answer stated, Plextor CD-Rs support BurnProof which gives you more flexibility while burning. You may also consider upgrading to one of these.
