Closing login script MS-DOS box?

By rh1138 ·
At our network we have used a logon script batch file to automatically map to network drives. Only on Win9x users does this ms-dos window freeze. How can we automatically close this box without user intervention like NT4/2000 users?

if it is a batch file, you should create .PIF for that batch.

right click on that batch file, "Properties", "Program" and click "Close on Exit" checkbox.

Sorry, maybe I should have put more detail into my question. This is a batch file that resides in the NETLOGON folder on the server. It's called based on the batch file name in the user profile.

Does it freeze on one of the mappings or when it is finished mapping? Is the batch file just full of "net use"? You could try adding a "\y" to the end of each net use command and "exit" at the end of the batch.

Haven't tried to /y tag, what's that do? "exit" at the end of the batch file doesn't seem to close it.

The easiest way to close a batch file is to type exit on the last line, making sure that all process have finished before this command is ran. I think the command line instruction for this is something along the lines of Call command /wait. not to sure if need be I can find out for you.

What type of network are you on Microsoft or Novell? I know there is a switch on Novell's that should close automatically... I would have to look it up again.

Another fix - but this is at the station - would be similiar to the first answer -
When the file finishes running:
Right-click on the title bar > Properties > Check Close on exit box.

This will close the box from that point on for that file.
It is not the best solution but those users who constantly complain it will shut them up until you find something more permanent

Remove the line "Echo off" from the batch file and check if it is getting stuck on a particular net use command . I personally think having the exit command in the end should close the DOS window if does finally get executed .
