By akota ·
Hi,

I want close certain ports in my Windows 2000 server and also scan for which all ports are open?

Can anyone help me on this?

Thanks

From the win2000 server, go to www.grc.com

click on Shields Up

Find the link for Shields Up and click on it

Then click on Probe My Ports

It will tell you if the critical ports are opened.

What firewall are you using? It should also give you a listing of ports that have been configured and how they are configured.

go to a command prompt and type: netstat -a

That will list open ports. Foundstone.com also has a tool called fport.exe that will help with this further.

On your NIC card Properties>TCP/IP Properties>advanced>options. There you will find ways to block ports.

You could also do a search on the Internet for closing ports in Windows. YOu will find many articles stating how to do this.
