CMI 8333 Audio Adapter

by bob . Updated 24 years, 6 months ago

Reformatted harddrive on a machine with unknown manufacturer. 300 MGHZ with integrated sound.
Loaded Windows 98se.
At startup, Windows tells me that it has detected new hardware, CMI 8333, and would like to search for the driver. Original OS is 95. 95 supposedly holds the driver. Found the driver, with some intense searching, on the internet. Downloaded it. Windows no longer wanted to search for the software for the new hardware, but the sound still does not work. in add new hardware it already has the best driver. In control panel systems, it is flagged and properties says there is no driver. Allow it to search, and it tells me the best driver is already installed.
The Question is: Where do I go from here? How do I get sound out of this thing again? New sound card? OK How do I get rid of the integrated one, so it doesn’t conflict?
