You cannot get into CMOS setup fronce any computer has completed the boot process, regardless of the operating system. CMOS setup is accessed only at the beginning of the boot process.

The TEMP variable has nothing to do with CMOS.

The TEMP variable (in XP) is defined at Start Menu | Control Panel | System | Advanced tab | Environment Variables.

Hope this helps.

NOTE: In XP, the TEMP variable is set on a per-user basis (i.e. the defined TEMP variable can be different form user to user).

On most computers, you will get a display that tells you "Press F1 for Setup" or F2 or Del. Depending on the maker of your BIOS there are several ways to get in.

Try F1 before the Windows screen loads. If that fails try F2... fails again, try f10... try Del... some computers also have key combinations to get into the BIOS... or CMOS as you say.

The previous answer covers TEMP
