Code database/Library

By dennisbv ·
A friend and I would like to know if anybody has a program or knows of one that will allow the saving of code to a database, so it can be used or modified later. We would like to be able to search for a phrase or name to find the code that would work for the next problem. I have seen a couple that only create a hyperlink to a file. I want to be able to search and display the results. Then view the code

Code database/Library

Here's a way to accomplish what I think you are looking for with existing tools:

1. Set up a directory for all of your saved code.

2. Save each set of code to a separate file. You might put a header on the code with a brief description of its function.

Use Windows find function to search the code and just look for files in the directory that contain the text of interest. Open any ones of interest.

I know this may be a cheesy way to accomplish what you want, but I think it might work fairly decently. If you wanted, you could also write a simple Access database to search on the descriptions (that you would enter into the database along with the file location/name) where there would be a link to the file and the file could beopened using Word or whatever.
