What can I do to protect against the Code Red virus?
Are there any free programs for this?

    I run Win98SE

You really should install a full solution, not just attempt to block a single virus.

The top 3 anti-virus programs are Panda, Norton, and McAfee.
I have seen Norton and McAfee on the web for under $20.

The next step would be to use a free firewall.
Zone Alarm from zone labs is free for home use.

      Chas, Hello again

I used Zone Alarm, and it brought up so many items that I had to decide what to with, that I deleted it.
I also used McAfee several times, but never felt secure with it.I didn’t get much info as to what it was doing for me.
I now have AVG a freebie that seems to work great, and I hope it keeps me safe from Code Red, but I’m not sure.
I am on AOL, and it seems to shield me from a lot of the viruses that I am warned about, because most of them effect Outlook Express.
