Codec Issues in WMP11 - Vista Business

By ·
I built and sold a computer to a customer of mine. And against my better judgement they went with Vista Business.

Now I'll admit that I didn't jump on the band wagon and play around with this OS all that much.. in my opinion its got too many issues and was forced out before they could fix most of it..(think Microsoft ME!)

Now I was completely unaware that Vista Ultimate and Home Premium come with all of the WMP Codecs needed to play DVD, but the Business Home Std do not.

Here's what really pisses me off... MS wants me to PAY for the codec to fix the issue!

Screw them...

Is there any way around this without buying a prgram that you have to update EVERY year like Nero?

System specs if needed:

ASUS Athlon 7750 Dual Core 2.71 GHz - 4GB Memery - 2x 230GB Hard Drives Mirrored in Raid.

Any help would be appreciated!

I'm assuming you need a video codec. Their Top 30 list is here: You can also review a complete selection at

Try the K-Lite codec pack. I've never had a problem with it on XP, but don't know if it will run on Vista.

I do appreciate the reply.. but I'd really like to know if they'll work for Vista.. it's a 45 min drive to where the computer is and I hate spending any more time there then absolutely necessary!

I did go and look into the site you linked.. after a bit of searching and reading I found the Vista Codecs and a download for them...
