To compete and survive in the industry you have got to know both. I have dabbled a little with both and find CF easier to learn than ASP. But I have also seen some excellent sites in ASP as well. For obvious reasons asp will always command its market share and CF may have to play catch up. Check your local market base, If ASP has a bigger market share, start with it. Once you get a hang of asp, you may be able to pick up CF all by yourself.

Good Luck

Hi Gunavan,
If U want to go for java and programming side U need to work on Javascript.
If U want to work on tools and asp it is better to learn on Vbscript.
If U want to work on CGI U learn PERL script.

ASP is rapidly becoming the standard. I would stick with it but in the IT field nothing is forever, so prepare to continually develop your skill base.

If you are still interested in ASP I can recommend some useful links:

1.http://www.liquidrage.com/beg_code/beginning_asp.asp - Basics

2.http://www.aspalliance.com/glenncook/ - ASP Tutorial

3.http://www.learnasp.com/ - another tutorial

Good luck!

If I were to compare against these two, I would say ASP. Though it has it's limitation but you can switch to JSP or PHP much easier as the syntax and logic is pretty similar. ASP is more popular in the South-east asia region, so you can find jobs easier.
Hope this clear your doubts.
