Collage Net Project

I am a networking student at CW, in New York.I have been assigned a project in which I must update the entire network of a company.I am very new at this and any help anyone can give would be greatly aprecieated. The scenario is as follows:

Acme has grown due to the healthy economy in the United States. Acme is expanding and the company has decided to purchasethe McGraw Company in Vermont.
McGraw has an older computer system which includes an IBM 3090 mainframe computer and 75 dumb terminals. The company also has 10 Telex printers. All the terminals and printers are attached to IBM 3174 control units which in turn connect to he mainframe. The cabling is all coaxial.
The 100 employees of McGraw share the terminals to access systems running on the mainframe computer.the users of the company each have an email ID on the mainframe based email system and they send messages to each other.
The personnel office of McGraw has a small Novell Lan using token ring. Thers are 10 Compaq 200 MHz PC’s in the LAN. Five of the PC’s have 56Kb modems that dail into the internet using AOL. There are 2 Compaq Prolient servers running Novell in this Lan. All of the PC’s are using Windows 98 as their operating system. The servers use CCMAIL to exchange email messages.
The parent company, Acme would like to access the files and applications on McGraw’s mainframe and LAN system. Acme would like to exchange mail with McGraw employees also.

The task is to:

1) Connect Acme’s current network systems to McGraw’s current mainframe and Lan system.

2)Create a plan to convert McGraw’s current computer systems to Acme’s current technology and LAN/WAN network.

Being very new to this I’m not sure exactly where to start. I never studied anything about mainframes and don’t know anything about them. Any help anyone can give would be greatly apprecieated.
