I have a small workgroup of computers. They are connected to a patch panel to a 3com hub. One of my computers are showing a collision alert on the hub. I had this issue with another computer and changed the IP that seem to solve the problem. But I have that same problem and it is not working. Could someone please give some advise on small workgroup collision problem?

I do not know what 3com hub you are using but it should be a auto sensing hub. I suggest you replace the hub with a switch. The prices on switches have dropped alot and well worth the money in network uptime. A switch is sort of an intelligent hub/repeater. I am partial to Belkin switches but there are many other makers.

Not knowing a lot about the setup you have, I would first try and find out a little more about what is working.
1- Swap cables on 2 of the ports on hub. if the problem stays on that port, the hub needs replaced or don’t use that port.
2- Swap cables with another PC at the PC end, so suspect PC is using all of the cables used are now the previously working PC’s. If the problem moves, don’t use those cables.
3- Get some diags for the NIC and see if it passes some transmits & receives without causing collisions, if it can’t or fails it’s own loopback test, replace the NIC.
4- If that don’t tell you the problem its the drivers, in which case what are running ?
