Combat Flight Simulator 3 crash

By BrokenEagle ·
Got CFS3 for Christmas. Worked great for a month, then after a couple Windows Updates it started rebooting the computer whenever I either crashed my airplane, got shot down, or successfully completed a mission. The screen goes black and sys "Analog" and a couple other words that are not on the screen long enough to read right bfore it reboots. Reported the crashes to Microsoft when prompted, they say they are investigating. Have deleted and reinstalled video card driver and monitor driver. Anyone else seen this? Anyone got a fix?

You could try uninstalling the game and then run both AV & Spy Ware Scanners over the system in Safe Mode and if it's clean you can try to reinstall the game. it's possible;e that the Patches have somehow adversely affected the game and are causing the problem as well.

If the maker has a Help Line I would try ringing them for a solution as they are the ones most likely to have a solution for the problem.

When everything else fails backup all your data including at the very least sent E-Mails and then wipe the HDD and do a reinstall of Windows and then the necessary patches. Once this is done you can reinstall the game and maybe it will work properly. It really depends if MS has plugged a hole in their OS that the game takes advantage of to work correctly.

It was a good suggestion to uninstall and reinstall the game. I had reinstalled the game without uninstalling it first (surprized I didn't think about uninstalling it first since I have seen that fix other Microsoft Application problems in the past).
The first crash after un/reinstall occurred sooner and resulted in a suggestion to install a newer video driver. That still didn't solve the problem.
Microsoft now says it is investigating the problem so I'll procrastinate on the fdisk, format option for now.

Have you tried uninstalling the game and then updating the Video Driver? That may cure a software conflict that arises when you attempt to update the Video Driver.

It sounds like a simple Software conflict occurring but they are a real pain to fix once they do occur.

I don't know if it will work but it's worth a try.

What worked was (combination of the above, plus some things I thought of while backing up my data hoping not to have to do a Windows reinstall):
1. Did a System Restore back to the day after I installed the game originally (Dec, 28th). Tried running the game and got error messages about files missing.
2. Uninstalled the game and decided to do a full shutdown reboot before installing. When I shut down 10 Windows updates installed.
3. Reinstalled the game.
4. Played for the last 2 hours - everything normal.
