Command prompt not executing

By meltvn ·
Hi all
Running XP Pro SP2. Normal office programs installed + view development programs.
No virus threads detected lately.
The Problem:
When you start/execute the command prompt using run command or start menu it does not execute some commands like.
Ipconfig, edit, ping exct
You need to bee in the root of the system 32 directory before these commands execute. Is there a way to fix this problem without taking to much drastic measures? SFC did not work.
I need to not reinstall OS or programs.
Thanks

Your path is not right. Try this

The path is now managed by Windows 2000 / Windows XP and not the autoexec.bat or autoexec.nt files. To change the system environment variables, follow the below steps.

From the desktop, right click My Computer and click properties.
In the System Properties window, click on the Advanced tab.
In the Advanced section, click the Environment Variables button.
Finally, in the Environment Variables window, highlight the path variable in the Systems Variable section and click edit. Add or modify the path lines with the paths you wish the computer to access. Each different directory is separated with a semicolon as shown below.

C:\Program Files;C:\Winnt;C:\Winnt\System32

Hi thanks it set me on the right track. I made a change in the system variable path. Not much was diffirent only the user has put in a C:\program; path first that I moved to the back.
I also added security rights to the command.com ins system32 dir for the System.
That seem to have fixed the problem.

meltvn , try typing the command in full , i.e . together with the path . My guess is still it will not execute , check the properties and rights .
