"Comment (Computer Name)" format in XP

By marcr ·
Hello,

Does anyone know how to change the way XP displays computers on the network from the "Comment (Computer Name)" format back to the old format?

When browsing for computers on the network, XP displays computers like this:

Name Comment
---- -------
John Smith (Computer A) John Smith
Mary Jones (Computer B) Mary Jones
Frank Mill (Computer C) Frank Mill

Earlier versions of Windows display computers like this:

Name Comment
---- -------
Computer A John Smith
Computer B Mary Jones
Computer C Frank Mill

Is there a way to tweak XP to revert to the old format?

Please let me know...thanks

Open My Network Places to the screen where you can see all of your network computers. On the toolbar, select View -> Choose Details. Highlight "Name" and select Move Up (or you can simply uncheck "Comments").

Thanks for the response but that solution doesn't get me the results I am looking for.

Going into Choose Details only changes the order of the displayed fields. The way the Name field is displayed with "Comment (Computer Name)", it is not very easy to find the computer you are looking for. Even though the list is sorted by Computer Name, the Comment info is still placed in front of the Computer Name.

Name
==============
John Smith (Computer A)
Mary Jones (Computer B)

I would like the old format:

Name Comment
========== ===========
Computer A John Smith
Computer B Mary Jones

Thank you again for the response but I still need some advice about achieving a solution.
