OK here goes… My apartment has a communal TV/Satellite system set up. There is what appears to be a multi LNB dish and a terrestrial ariel that are joined via a diplexer to create a single cable that runs to each appartment. On my end there is another diplexer wall plate to split the two signals into a female RF socket and a satellite f-plug.
Now for the weird bit… my sky satellite system (in the setup menu) states i have full signal strength and approx 50% signal quality which fluctuates either side of that mark by the second. Most channels work fine all the time, however, some are blocky and unwatchable but are totally dependant on where i am standing in the room. If i stand up accross from the TV but in front of the window the picture and sound are distorted however if i sit down below the window the picture comes ok. If i touch the bare metal on the f-plug on the wall socket the signal is perfect with no distortion. My cordless phone also causes major interruption.
Clearly there is some electrical phenomenon involving me and the satelite circuit but how could that be in a closed circuit involving an LNB that is 3 storey’s above me?
Is it the fault of the diplexer?
When i touch the bare f-plug contact am i changing the diplexing circuit’s capacitance and somehow improving its performance?
Im an electronics student but this ones got me.
Any advice or thoughts on this would be much appreciated.
