Can you not just press F1 when it first posts and enter setup?

Compaqs used to be F10 to enter BIOS, they do have that annoying bitmap when booting up, so might try pressing ESC to get rid of that 1st.
good Luck

thank you guys for the response but F1 and F10 wont work neither, i've tried it...i found out earlier that CMOS setup for Compq Deskpro resides on a special partition of the harddrive, F10 wont work with my new harddrive...now all i need is the F10 setup file for compaq. i tried downloading it in compaq but i failed. i also tried setting up the os using a different pc, it worked, but still i need the F10 setup file for future need.

Anyway thank you guys.....

DeskPro 4000, God this takes me back.

First go back to www.hp.com and down load the computer setup and diags for your DP 4000.

Get some blank floppy disks and run the file you down loaded. This will make a 2 ? 3 disk set. You can now boot from the ?setup? disk and modify the setup properties.

You don?t need setup or diags installed on your hard disk. But if you really need to, first erase all partitions from the hard disk. Boot from the diags disk and follow the prompts. You will now have diags and setup available from the POST screen by hitting F10.
