compaq deskpro xe

having the damdest time with this machine.have no disks or cd-rom.managed to make a boot disk for the f10,so as to enter bios.machine won't boot, only to a win 98 boot disc.removed harddrive and installed win 95 software.puy back in machine and all i get is memory count over and over.anyone real familure with these machines?

how old is this machine? As of 1998 Compaq machines no longer have the Bios interface on the hard drive so you should be able to go to F10 and make sure your drive is setup there? Also why not just reinstall the operating system if you can boot froma win boot disc?

the machine is around a 92 or something like that.i could not install from the boot disk because i was getting an error message,"pci read configeration failure"when i would try to load with support from cd-rom,then it would tell me it was aborting installation.that is why i removed the harddrive to my other machine and installed it there.HELP
