Is it possible to repair a crashed Ipaq without returning it to Compaq?

It depends on "how" it crashed. Recently I had a Ipaq 5555 that I was sure was dead. It didn't turn on, no light, flashing or otherwise when trying to charge it. Turns out that if you let the battery drain too far down, you have to take several extra steps in order for it to charge & restart. Try this, charge the unit over night, even if the charging light doesn't come on. then try to do a "soft" reset- set your user's guide for the right buttons to push. If the soft reset doesn't work, try the full reset. Hope this helps. Your data on the ipaq is probably lost, but hopefully, you can get it powered up & then re-synch it to your data.
