Compaq laptop internal wireless not working

By c2harvey ·
I am trying to fix a Compaq laptop for a friend, that has an internal wireless card, with a button to press to turn on the wireless. She recently had to reinstall windows Xp and the blue wireless light does not come on when pressed, and you cannot connect to the internet, i checked for drivers and a couple are missing, including a modem one. is the problem that the driver is missing, or something else?

sounds like a driver is missing.

I have the same problem from time to time on Compaq/HP models. If you can connect to the Internet I would suggest loading the whole driver package for all of the updated drivers.
After installing the wi-fi drivers, the wireless will work, but I dont think that the button does until the chipset drivers are installed. Also until chipset drivers are installed there may be USB issues.

I would have to agree it's the drivers/software not installed

Many times people just think that by running the Installer for Windows it installs everything which in many cases it fails to do miserably. In some cases the WiFi drivers & Software need to be installed after the main Windows Install but then again so do the M'Board drivers and the drivers for unimportant things like the Keyboard & Touch pad.

I would recommend to log onto HP/Compaq and download the latest available drivers for the entire system and install them as well as any software that comes in that lot. You'll probably need to burn them to a CD or DVD as the USB ports will at best be marginal as well.

Just make sure that SP2 is installed before you start installing these drivers if it isn't already installed.

HP Laptop Wireless Not Working

by ashily24dee In reply to Compaq laptop internal wi ...

No connectivity issues on HP Compaq computers mean that the system would not connect to the wireless network at all.

This kind of problem is usually caused by incorrect drivers installed on the system or presence of malwares such as conficker worms.

The problem can be solved by replacing the wireless drivers installed on the system with proper genuine ones and removing the malwares with the help of an updated antivirus program or malware removal tool.
