Compaq Laptop/PCI Conflict/Open Modem

by spikerayne . Updated 24 years, 6 months ago

I recently logged online, logged offline, and shut down my computer in the normal fashion. No downloads, nothing out of the ordinary. I have a Compaq Presario 1800 custom-config. Modem is a Lucent 56K V.90 PCI DF on COM2. On bootup now I get a PCI conflict. Everything works normally with the exception that my modem port is constantly open. I get the PCI conflict error on bootup, but have no conflicts when I look around in the system. How do I get around this madness and close the port? I’d rather not send the machine in, it came back from repair last time with a dead modem, so this is a fairly new replacement; the friendly technicians at Best Buy were more clueless than myself, as they couldn’t find where to check IRQ conflicts in Win98. If any information is needed to solve this, I’ll post it as soon as I see it.
