Install the Monitor Driver

That is the obvious thing but you may need also to install the Video Driver if it’s not already installed.

The Video Driver is up to date. Problem is

          I didn’t say Video Driver

I said Monitor Driver you get this from the maker of the monitor.

After you install the Driver for the Monitor it will show the correct type of Monitor.

Can you change the resolution to the maximum?

      by ontheropes ·

In reply to Compaq Presario Monitor Type

I had the same type of ‘problem’ once but I could still use the monitor at the maximum resolution and refresh rate that it was capable of displaying so it didn’t matter. I did eventually ‘fix’ it by installing the correct monitor driver but there was no noticeable performance difference.

Your monitor is driven by graphics card, not the monitor driver. [EDIT]

I’ve got a HannsG 22″ WSXGA+ widescreen monitor but according to device manager its running with a PnP monitor driver, BUT also under the control of the Nvidia 8800GT graphics card.

Have you checked your graphics card driver entry yet?

If you have fitted a bespoke graphics card, the monitor driver is of no matter. 😉

My generic monitor driver is no less capable since I can use the Nvidia settings to drive my monitor all the way to 1680 x 1050 pixels (which is the monitor’s native resolution). 🙂

Oddly enough, having just checked on the HANNS G site, all the drivers are for Vista only.
