Compaq Proliant DL380 First Generation Server

By jamesfrench866 ·
I need to install smart start 5.50 from CD to the partition on a hot swappable SCSI drive. The CD is ISO, but F10 doesn't start it up. The CD loads in XP, tried to make a floppy erase disk, it wouldn't let me do that, access denied. The system ROM is reset if memory is removed, or PCI card added. Should I do that, or use the built in firmware utility and erase the drive configuration, will that get the system to boot from CD. There is Grub on the system, can and how do I use that just to boot to CD?

Anybody with experience on this I would appreciate help. This is 100 times harder than anticipated. it apparently is not just putting in a CD. I also am not sure that the ISO is the problem? Is there a way to force the boot from CD? James

Can the box boot anything else from CD?

e.g. a linux distro?

Not sure if that bios supports boot from CD or not. If not, then you have to boot from floppy and load the CD drivers in DOS.
