Compaq restore to XP MC from Vista

    Locked

    by live4ford ·

    Hi,
I have a Compaq Presario SR2032X that I bought a month ago. My school gave us Vista Business through MSDNAA so I upgraded from XP Media Center which was already on it. The problem is that I still have all of the backup files on partition H: but I no longer have the factory software (which was in XP media center) to begin the restore. I am wondering if I can do a command line restore at startup in order to repartition to run multiple OSes. In other words, if it is possible, which file must I run at the command line in order for the restore to begin? Thanks in advance for the help!

When you use the Vista Upgrade option you destroy the previous Windows whatever install and only get to keep most of the rubbish and Data.

If you want to Dual Boot this system you’ll need to create another Partition of the HDD and have Vista loaded first on one partition and then contact Compaq/HP any buy replacement Recovery CD’s and load them onto the second Partition so that you can Dual Boot the system into either OS.
