compatability

By aaron.semmel ·
I loaded windows 2000 on a compaq 740 dual 500 mhz proc system and the os only saw one processor. If I load XP on the same system will the os see both processors. If so how do I get either 2000 or XP to recognize and use both processors.

windows 2000 server is only seing ONE processor on a compaq 740 Dual 500 mhz processor system. The hardware sees both of them, the os only sees one. How can you force 2000 server to see both processors if it does not pick it up automaticaly.

OK... Strike one.... Try this one:

Windows 2000 Setup Detects Only One CPU on Some Compaq Servers

This says that they are originally configured with ACPI disabled, and therefore Windows2000 only detects one processor.

Hope this helps

Make sure your copy on W2K is for multiple processors. You can buy different versions for different processors. Our phone system is running dual p3 600mhz processors and we had to get a 2 processor license from Microsoft for that system.
