Compile error in hidden module: AutoExec

By ddvorpahl ·
When I open or close Word or Excel 2000 (as part of Office 2000) I receive the following error: Compile error in hidden module: AutoExec. I also sometimes receive the error: Compile error in hidden module: Distmon. Can someone help me solve this problem?

Compile error in hidden module: AutoExec

by SyscoKid In reply to Compile error in hidden m ...

It looks like a macro is trying to run at startup (that's what AutoExec is, the auto-execute macro), but can't because of bad code.

Hold down shift while you start Word. If no message pops up, that's definitely it. Holding down shift while starting Word disables auto macros at startup.

Look at Tools, Macro, Macros and see if there's a macro called AutoExec.

Could maybe be caused by a macro virus, if you didn't create the AutoExec macro. Run a virus scan.

Don't know about the Distmon part, though.

Thanks for the input. Yes, I can disable macros, but I don't want to have to hold the shift key down everytime I open/close Excel & Word.

I ran Norton Antivirus 2000 and found no virii. In Word I found the macros AutoExec.Main and AutoExit.Main. In Excel I found no macros. I don't use any macros in either prgram. I tried to delete the two macros in Word, but couldn't. Could this be either a registry (regedit) or system (msconfig) problem?

With Excel 2000, it is probably do to a version of Adobe Acrobat.
To ?cure? it, remove the Pdfwrite.xla file from the C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\Xlstart folder on your hard disk.

With Word 2000 MS warns about a program called ?Voice Xpress? and suggests dragging the following three files from the Office Startup folder to another location, such as your Windows Desktop:

- Wordai.wll
- Ezpwll32.wll
- Kword97.wll
The default location for the Office Startup folder is:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\Startup

Compile error in hidden module: AutoExec

Doug, thanks very much.
At this moment I have Excel 2000 cleared up, however I don't have Voice Xpress nor the files you mentioned. I am doing further research on the other sites listed. I still have the problem with Word 2000. Is there a VBE password cracking program available?
