Complete restore of NT WS 4.0 from tape

By Ken.Martin ·
At one time I had a writeup that set out the steps necessary to restore NT Workstation 4.0 from a tape backup with the registry on it. I can not find it when I need it! I know you rebuild NT from the original media into a different directory say C:\WINTMP instead of C:\WINNT. Load the tape driver. Restore the tape. Reboot the system. The rest I forgot (editing a couple of files?). Any help is appreciated.

The greater part you've already answered. The remainder is that you need to specify the WinNT System Folder (in BOOT.INI). After that's completed a reboot should enable you to run the 'old' system. If might want to delete C:\WINTMP afterwards.
