One of our computers has gotten a virus which causes windows 2000 to lockup and shut down short after opening. An error about internet explorer exe. file comes up before the computer looks up. This does not allow me enough to trouble shoot this virus. I believe I have seen this virus before some years ago but I do not remember how to remove it from the system.

You’ll need to provide a whole lot more detail than that before we can help find what it is.

For example, what error are you receiving? Can you boot into safe mode?

Have you tried running a full virus scan on your PC?

How do you know it’s a virus for sure unless you run a scan on your PC? It could be malware or spyware, but needless to say, I advise that you run a scan and after determining if you have a virus or something else, take the appropriate actions needed.
