computer browser service

On a Win2K Pro machine, I am having browsing problems. I checked services to see if the Computer browser service was working, and found it was not started. I tried to start it and get an error 1075: the computer browser service cannot be started.It may have been marked for deletion. I notice that one of it’s dependencies the Server service is missing. How can I correct this problem.
