Computer freezes

By lhatcher ·
I am having problems with my computer freezing. Its an HP 8230 laptop. I had windows installed before with no freezes at all, I reloaded windows and now at random times, it will freeze. If I go into device manager, sometimes, not all the time, there will be a n exclamation mark beside the wireless card, and my card reader. IF i go into properties, it says that this device failed to start, error code 10. I have tried new drivers for both devices.

Did you install the chipset drivers? I have seen PC's freeze when they were missing.

Check Hp?s website for problems with your laptop and use the fixes they suggest.
Most name brand computers will have patches or work around to fix problems. Down load all the updates and patches to a file on your hard drive and install them one at a time.
Have you backed up your important files to CD or a removable drive? You should do so before doing any major change. And do you use a good antiviral program? Scan before you do any thing.

I have checked hp already, no help. I have ran avg, no viruses.

I have discovered that if I leave my wireless disabled that it will not freeze.

Have you used an older driver to see if there is an issue with the newer ones?

Try upgrading the device drivers for this device."

Recommended Resolution ? NT-based Systems
Select Update Driver, which starts the Hardware Update wizard.

This error code is set when one of the drivers in the device's driver stack fails IRP_MN_START_DEVICE. If there are many drivers in the stack, it can be difficult to determine the one that failed.
