Computer freezes at Bios post screen

by arandompenguin . Updated 14 years, 9 months ago

So yesterday i go to reboot my computer and it just hangs on the Bios post screen.
I cant get into the Bios or anything, i can only delete boot device. I ran my win xp vol lic boot disk and ran an O/S repair. same problem on restart (im backing up my drive now so i can get more dirty) but once i tried a new drive and threw an O/s on it, it ran like a charm (and still is) but return to the issue when i throw the old drive back in.
The old hard drive still runs fine when i run it externally, no freezes or hicks all the data is there but it just wont post.
Normally id jsut call this done and throw my data over but my old drive is much larger than the one im using now and i like it (drives arent as cheap on third world countries such as mine).

So, my question is: is there anything you can think of that might help me get that old drive back up and running?

specs:
Toshiba S 2410-404
Winxp x86 SP3
Intel celeron 2.0 mhz
1 gb DDR ram (2x 512 cards 400 mhz)
I know its an old laptop but its been carrying me for the past 6 months when my Sony VAIO was stolen
Im a techie and will figure this out i just hope you fine gentlemen might be able to get me there a tad bit faster :p
[edit: the drive is a western digital IDE drive 5400 rpm ]
