computer is dying!

By shadowwolfmoon ·
I need help, the past few days my pc has been making some disturbing clicking noises before spontaneously resetting and saying that it's recovered from a serious error.

what could be causing this?

The HDD is dieing

by HAL 9000 Moderator In reply to computer is dying!

Open the case look at the HDD and read the makers name that is on the sticker on the top of the HDD.

Then download the Drive Makers Testing Utility and test the HDD. If it fails the test remove it fit it to another computer and retest. If it still fails the test the HDD is faulty and needs replacing and if it passes the second test the HDD is OK and the HDD Controller on the M'Board of your computer is in trouble and needs replacing that is the M'Board needs replacing.

I agree with HAL. Sounds like the hard disk head is about to die

by Why Me Worry? In reply to The HDD is dieing

and the clicking sound you hear is the drive head struggling to read data from a defective area on the platter(s) that makes up the hard disk. Backup whatever data you can to a tape/CDR/DVD and get a new hard drive, because your PC WILL fail, not when or if!
