computer management from 2k3 server to XP

By salvatoresaia ·
have an issue connecting via computer management from my 2k3 server to XP Pro everytime i try i get the following error:

"computer //computername.domain.com cannot be managed. The network path was not found. Choose conenct to another computer from the action menu to manage a different computer".

This is odd as i was able to join the xp machine to the domain, the dns server is configured to point to the 2k3 server DNS, the Xp client client doesnt have any service packs neither does 2k3 server, its logged onto the domain the computer object is in ADS is there something that i might be doing wrong or may have missed out? i cant figure this one out

No service packs?

by curlergirl In reply to computer management from ...

Are you sure that the XP machines are not running SP2? Perhaps SP2 was part of the original install? This type of error message often is caused by the Windows Firewall being turned on and blocking access to the machine across the network.

Turn off Firewall

It usually occurs when a firewall is on Windows XP. Turn off firewall.
Go to Control Panel.
Double Click -- Security Centre
Click -- Windows Firewall
Select off.

Computer Management

Probably is not a Firewall issue. You just need to make sure the machine with XP has the right service up an running. Otherwise it will not work. The service is called "server". Let me know how it goes.
