I’ve recently encounter a situation with my computer… The computer was completely normal until couple days ago when I tried to boot up my computer from a stand-by overnight. I’ve noticed that the computer is still on (due to the motherboard light and the stand-by flashing led on my case), however, when i tried to press the power-on button, nothing happens, so I do what many would have done…hammering the button, nothing happen….so I manually turned off the switch in the back to cut the power.
After turning the switch back on (motherboard light on), i press the power-on button, and for a split second (1/2 a second or so) the computer was on and then turns right back off; so again, i press the button again, nothing happens; as a result, I flip the back switch on-off-on….same thing happens again, 1/2 second of power. So I opened up my computer, took off everything on the board except the switch that connects to the case and the power supply; again, same old story, 1/2 a second worth (i can tell from the motherboard fan). So I’m starting to think it’s the power supply that’s giving me the problem…but, the power supply (X-finity 600W ps) was only 1 month or 2 old and it’s fairly new.
However, i replaced the power supply with a old 550w ps that i had before and tried if the computer would run, but again, same thing happen, which i’m assuming it’s not the power supplies’ fault or could it..? So now i’m assuming it’s the power switch that connects the case to the motherboard that’s the problem…
But again, I left the computer overnight in the “on” position of the power supply and the next morning, the computer were able to turn on normally when i pressed the case power on button. BUT!!!, after the computer stays on for like 10 mins, the computer turns off suddenly (power loss), and the whole thing repeats itself again…
I have also tried cleaning out any dust that accumulated inside the case/fans (although not so much because all the components are new) and it’s giving me the same problem.
I didn’t want to come to this, but I have tried almost everything and running out of ideas of what’s wrong. This rig that I built was only 5 months old…everything was brand new except for the optical drives, one of the secondary harddrive, and the computer case itself…
