Computer will not reboot when a new program or windows ask you to reboot. It hangs after the message, completed updating files and reloading windows. To reboot, shut down complete and wait. Turn on and wait for message windows did not complete loading on last attempt. Select normal and it usually starts. Also at times the keyboard does not activate and no mouse installed. During windows clean install it will hang at the first splash screen on first restart during installation. Anyone gotany ideas.

Can you please give us a few more specifics? Are you running/installing Win95A, B, Win98, Win98SE or what? Is this a new system or old? The symptoms you describe could be anything from a bios that needs flashed, a master boot record that needs tobe fdisked, device conflicts, bad or outdated device drivers, or Windows acknowledged problems that they may or may not have patches for. Give a few more details and I’ll try to help a little more. Thanks!

      Hi!

Regardless of OS, Operating System, I would go about it in this manner:

      1. Get the latest OS and DRIVER updates.
      2. Flash the computers BIOS if there is an update.
      3. If the CPU is overclocked lower the CPU speed.
      4. Lower the buss speed if that’s overclocked too.
      5. Remove Network, Sound card and any other extra cards you have and check if problem is still there.
      6. Reinstall the whole system from scratch leaving nothing, boot from FLOPPY, run fdisk and remove all partitions. Reboot again createa new partitions as you like. Reboot format drive and reinstall all software and patches.

Try saying “no” to the reboot question. Then got to the “start” menu and shutdown and restart. That worked more times than not for me, it sure beats reloading your OS.

If that doesn’t work try finding better drivers for the device you are trying to load.

If you’re having a problem during a clean install as well as reboots, then it’s most likely a driver issue. Remove all add-in cards (modem, sound, etc.) and build as a basic machine. Then install the cards one at a time. Make sure you ahve the correct drivers (check websites for new versions).

Here’s an idea that will probably work. This is pretty much going over the other responses but here it goes. Chances are, it is one of your device drivers. Start everything back from scratch and reload all your devices with it’s current driver. Click start -> run -> REGEDIT -> click on HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> click on ENUMS, then delete the entire ENUMS entry. Remember, download ALL your updated drivers FIRST, before you delete the enums entry. See how this works out, if not, then go one byone and pull out all teh devices in your system. Manually add each device seperately and see if this fixes the problem. Good luck buddy!

One more check on your system: make sure it’s properly ventilated and wouldn’t hurt to blow out the dust inside. You should be able to touch any components inside the computer without getting burned. Ideally they should be at most lukewarm. If there is a heat problem, add a second fan and place it at the front to create better air flow.

      Good luck!

Greetings…ANSWER NO 2 IS RIGHT ON I had this very same problem installing 98 on client machines that I did not build. However, his method will take a long time

IT IS YOUR CLOCK SPEED ON THE CPU, as your front side bus does not support your CPUclock speed, easy fix…2 ways to get there, 1 change jumper settings on the mainboard. or 2 check to see if your system bios recognizes the CPU clock speed.

      REINSTALL the OS

YOu can jump your CPU to a slower speed to match the Main board or change CPU.

This is due 2 your frontside bus maybe 66 and the CPU is 100.

If you are running win95 and you have a AMD Chip higher then 300 MHz you need to download patch from AMD site.

The workaround for this problem is time consuming. You can either enable startup menu under the “advance” tab in MSCONFIG to run a step by step confirmation (this will tell you which drivers are bad or corrupted; you can access MSCONFIG dialog box by typing it in Run in Start Menu)

      OR

After performing a backup of your important data in your system, format the drive and reinstall Windows. Either way, I hope you can resolve your problem soon.. 🙂 good luck

try this first, reboot your system and as it boots up hit the “F8” key this will give you the option to do a step by step boot, where you can confirm each driver and device as it boots up. if you watch and remember each conformation then when it hangs you can get the device it hangs on after the last confirmation. i have used this little trick to help me solve these issues at my plant. I also had a system that was doing everything you are having problems with, after going through the step by step boot, it started working. i figured that some drivers were both tring to grab the same resources at the same time, after doing the step by step, each could only grab what was open at there time of activation.
      hope this helps.
