computer time

I beleive I have gone thru all the proper trouble shooting to fix the time. It continues to run slow. Also when you turn off the computer the time stops. I'm new to trouble shooting just gone thru A+ training. Could use some expert help

This could be caused by the CMOS battery on the motherboard,open the computer and look for a round nickel plated object on the motherboard,try getting the model number off the battery without removing,so that you can protect against losing any Bios configurations if the battery is not replaced immediately,replace the battery and see if this will help.

Simple!

Set the clock in the computer to the correct date and time.

turn the computer off.

Wait one day.

Turn the computer on.

If the date and time are the same as the date and time you turned the computer off, that means the clock isnot running from the battery in the computer. Normally means the clock chip itself is bad.

If the date and time are really different, then the CMOS battery is at fault.
