Hi, I’m a student who works for a nonprofit that refurbishes older, donated computers to loan or sell to people with disabilities. We use DBAN to erase all information from donated computers. With this particular PC (Dell Dimension 2400), after using the DBAN disk to wipe the hard drive, the computer now will not boot from the Windows XP installation CD. This is very odd since DBAN just worked without a hitch. The error message I get is the:
“Press F1 to retry boot, press F2 for setup menu.”
I have used the boot menu to boot from CD using both F12 at startup and permanently using the setup options, and I have tried resetting the BIOS. This has never happened after the optical drive just worked perfectly with DBAN. There is only one optical drive installed.
Any ideas? Thanks!
