computer won’t play sounds

by neiceh . Updated 14 years, 1 month ago

My computer has stopped playing all sounds. It was working fine yesterday, but today when I woke up, any sounds I attempted to play wouldn’t. The start up/shutting down sounds don’t play. Neither does Windows Media Player, any internet sounds/videos/etc., or regular system sounds. When I look at my volume mixer, it shows the bars moving when sounds play, but nothing comes from my speakers.

I have Windows 7 home premium, and an IBM Thinkpad laptop (don’t judge, I like it)

I’ve tried a system restore, which worked the last time this happened. I’ve also let windows install all the updates I’ve been avoiding. I tried configuring my speakers, and troubleshooting audio playback.

Is there anything else I can do, or have my speakers just quit on me?

It’s my computer speakers, not outside ones

edit:

Plugged in my headphones, and I heard some sound, but it was really really faint.
